The Great Allegheny Passage, Five Star Trail, Coal & Coke Trail, and Westmoreland Heritage Trail are maintained, monitored and promoted by volunteers. Most of the volunteers belong to an organized Trail Council or Chapter of the Regional Trail Corporation. These trail support groups hold monthly meetings to plan their events and maintenance projects.
Chapters and Meetings
Each Trail Council / Chapter is separate and independent of each other, but are all a part of the Regional Trail Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The RTC is the developer and manager of the Great Allegheny Passage from the Waterfront in Homestead to Connellsville, PA, as well as the Five Star Trail, the Coal & Coke Trail, the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, the Little Crabtree Creek Trail and the Latrobe - St. Vencent Trail.
We have five support groups involved with the Great Allegheny Passage. They are:
Steel Valley Trail Council

Mon/Yough Trail Council

Serving a portion of the Great Allegheny Passage in Allegheny County. Meetings are on the second Thursday of every month, 7 pm, at the Greenock Fire Hall, 1002 Greenock Buena Vista Road, McKeesport.
Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter

Coal & Coke Trail Chapter

The Coal & Coke Trail Chapter has been established as a volunteer chapter to promote and maintain the Coal & Coke Trail, a non-motorized, multi-purpose, recreational trail between Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant.
Meetings held the sedond Tuesday of each month, 7 pm, Scottdale Boro Building, 10 Mt. Pleasant Road, Scottdale.
Five Star Trail Chapter

The Five Star Trail in Greensburg, South Greensburg, Southwest Greensburg, Hempfield Township, & Youngwood (the five stars) has several very active committees, a busy maintenance schedule and run a very successful Poker Ride the fourth Saturday in July. Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30 at 194 Donahoe Rd.
Westmoreland Heritage Trail Chapter

RTC's newest trail chapter is working to finish a trail across northern Westmoreland County. Approximately nine miles of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail are completed and open from Saltsburg to Delmont. An additional 5.9 miles from Duff Park in Murrysville to B-Y Park in Trafford are open and ready to use. Meetings are the seond Thursday of each month at various locations.
Donations/Memberships
Annual membership dues to the individual Trail Councils/Chapters can be paid by choosing a chapter from the drop down menu. Please let us know which group you are interested in joining and then click on the Paypal payment button. You can use a credit card for payment. We will then send you the application and information for that chapter.
